Temazcal
Temazcal is a type of sweat lodge which originated from pre-Hispanic indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica. The word temazcal comes from the Nahuatl word temāzcalli (“house of heat”), or possibly from the Aztec teme (to bathe) and calli (house).
The Maya, in modern-day Mexico, used the temazcal as a place for both spiritual ceremonies and physical healing. They would enter the temazcal for days at a time in search of the answers within themselves, exiting the ritual as a newly profound being.
In general, the temazcal was viewed by the Mayans as the womb of Mother Earth. The structure itself is typically constructed from volcanic rock, cement and clay and has a circular dome.
Volcanic stones are heated and placed in a pit inside. Between 2 – 20 guests sit in the temazcal and a Shaman (ancient Maya healer) performs a series of guided meditations targeted at cleansing and harmonizing the spirit.
Kambo
Kambo, also known as frog medicine, is the venomous secretion of Phyllomedusa bicolor (the giant leaf or monkey frog), a bright green tree frog native to the Amazon basin. It can be found in the rainforest regions of northern Brazil, eastern Peru, southeastern Colombia, and parts of Venezuela, Bolivia, and the Guianas.
Kambo has a range of traditional and potential therapeutic applications, both medical and psycho-spiritual. Commonly described as an ‘ordeal medicine’, the secretion is known for its powerful emetic or purgative effects. Despite its initial unpleasantness, kambo is widely sought out to revitalize body and mind.
The immediate effects of kambo medicine are intense but short-lived, usually lasting no more than 20-40 minutes. They include a rise in internal temperature, sweating, shivers, and dizziness as the heart rate increases. Nausea is generally unavoidable with kambo and purging is likely—either by vomiting, defecation, or both.
The purgative ecretion “resets” the body, not only by strengthening the immune system but also through distinct psycho-spiritual benefits. A profoundly transformational tool, kambo medicine is known to increase compassion, courage, emotional stability, and personal sovereignty.
Some users feel more “real” or “solid” after kambo application—less in their heads and more in their bodies. Frustration, anger, and anxiety also tend to reduce or dissipate entirely. These positive changes may last several days or several months, depending on the application and the person receiving it.
Cacao
Cacao has been used in ancient ceremonies by South Americans (the Maya) for thousands of years. It has an active ingredient in it called theobromine — which can be translated to, ‘Food of the Gods’.
Cacao ceremonies are a type of shamanic healing, but they don’t have hallucinogenic or “out of body” effects, unlike some of the other shamanic experiences. The ceremonies are rooted in helping to rebalance the energies within us, and restore good health.
Through opening the heart, cacao enables us to hear our true self, work through blockages and past traumas, dissolve any pent up negative energy, and help us align with who we truly are.
Cacao is packed with vitamins and minerals that are great for cardiovascular health. It is also renowned for releasing dopamine and endorphins in the body, which soothe symptoms of PMS as well as depression, by boosting our mood.
Bufo
The Colorado River Toad, also known by the names of Sonoran Desert Toad and Bufo alvarius, is an endemic species of toad that can be found in a small region of the southwestern USA and northwestern Mexico.
Bufo contains 5-MeO-DMT which is found in the milky white venom the toad produces. It has been measured to be four to six times more powerful than its better-known cousin, DMT. In keeping with its ceremonial use among indigenous Amazonians, 5-MeO-DMT shows great promise in the treatment of certain medical conditions. Many people also find its effects to be personally useful or even life changing.
The Bufo ceremony is performed by smoking the 5-MeO-DMT powder. Effects are usually felt within the first 30 seconds, peaking from 1-15 minutes and lasting for up to half an hour.
The experience itself is famously difficult to put into words. The best description may be the one given by Albert Moss, founder of the Church of the Toad of Light “an overload of thoughts and perception, brief collapse of the EGO, and loss of the space-time continuum. Relax, breathe regularly, and flow with the experience. After two to three minutes, the initial intensity fades to a pleasant LSD-like sensation in which visual illusions, hallucinations, and perceptual distortions are common. You may sense a distortion in your perceived body image or notice the world shrinking or expanding. You may notice that colors seem brighter and more beautiful than usual. And, most likely, you will experience a euphoric mood interspersed with bursts of unmotivated laughter.”
Ayuasca
Ayahuasca is a brew made from two plants, Psychotria Viridis shrub and Banisteriopsis Caapi vine. The main active chemical compound is DMT or N,N-Dimethyltryptamine.
After consuming the Ayahuasca, the effects are felt within 20-60 minutes and can last up to 6 hours. It has been used in ceremonial context in South America for thousands of years.
What makes it special here is the amazing guides and music master who accompany us and create a soul and sound bath during all night long.
Benefits include increase in creativity, openness, and spiritual or personal growth. It has been known to support therapies for depression, addiction, anxiety and PTSD. Clinical studies are currently being conducted.
Many who seek experiences of personal growth with ayahuasca report a sense of connectedness and compassion with others around them. Some report spiritual awakenings that lead to long-term, stable perspective shifts.
